LameeLa LANI LaMEE 121309

DIRECTOR 2005-2007
MEMBER 2003-2009

Lani LaMee was our society's president when she passed away November 30, 2009, from cancer.Lani was enthusiastic about our society and worked hard to make it known in Ormond Beach and around the state. Her legacy continues through special Lani LaMee Memorial Presentations coordinated by the Halifax Genealogical Society with generous endowments by her husband, Pat. We thank Pat LaMee for his support of genealogy education.

Lani moved to Ormond Beach from Scarsdale, N.Y. in 1980. While a volunteer in the Oseola Elementary School library/media center, she joined Halifax Genealogical Society in September 2003, and was a hard-working and faithful member.

As a director in HGS from 2005-2007, she served as publicity chairman. Lani brought a lot of creativity to the position of publicity chairman. Upon learning about the genealogy booth at the Volusia County Fair, she designed the original brochure to distribute at events that would inform people about the society. Lani was always looking for ways to publicize HGS and would take advantage of opportunities to have a table at local fairs to be a visible presence in our community.

Lani served as president of Halifax Genealogical Society from 2008-2009. At the annual seminar of the Florida State Genealogical Society in 2007, she was disappointed that our society was not represented in the parade of society banners. Suggesting to the Board that one be produced, a banner was created, her husband, Pat, crafted a stand, and Lani proudly marched in the society banners parade the following year, 2008. The banner is displayed at every HGS meeting.
